The neo classic style Opera is located on the la place du Theatre.

The Credit Lyonnais tower was built by Christian de Portzamparc in the parc Henri Matisse.

La place du general de Gaulle, born in Lille in 1890, with its numerous cafes's terraces, crowded day and night is the usual rendez vous of the Lillois.

Musee des Hospices Comtesse, created by Jeanne de Flandres, is an ancient hospital and dates back 1237.

Notre Dame de la Treille cathedral stands place Gillerson.

The belfry of the Town Hall is a symbol of liberty of the cities of the Noth area. On its low part are sculpted the founding giants of the city, Lyderic and Phinaert.

The Vauban gardens are a green circle around the town, replacing the former remparts.

The open air market Wazemmes takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on place de la Nouvelle Aventure and around the church Saint Pierre and Saint Paul.

The famous braderie takes place once a year, the 1st week-end of September and it is the biggest in Europe.


An "estaminet" is much more than a classic cafe, you come here for enjoying a beer and meet your friends.

 

 

Did you know that the subway of Lille, the Val, had the first automated cars in the world ? It was decorated by outstanding artists like sculptor Cesar.

Many important people are born in Lille or in the nearby are : general de Gaulle, the painter Henri Matisse and the famous singer Line Renaud.
